Bringing COMET 700

to Life in 3D

A high-impact product film for one of Cigweld’s legends — blending cinematic animation, dynamic visuals, and technical precision.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Cigweld, a leading Australian welding equipment manufacturer, approached us to develop a cinematic product launch film for their new COMET 700 & 500 regulator range. The goal was to create a short, visually striking animation that could be used for web, trade fairs, and broader marketing campaigns — while also serving as a pilot for future collaborations.

Collection of Welding gas regulators in red, blue, and black colors with a cloud of white smoke or vapor in the background.

GOALS & REQUIREMENTS

The animation needed to:

  • Showcase the regulator’s key design features in under 45 seconds

  • Reflect Cigweld’s premium product positioning

  • Align with brand aesthetics and technical accuracy

  • Be modular for future edits and product swaps

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

The visual direction for the COMET 700 animation was defined early through collaborative discussions and planning calls with the Cigweld team. Instead of relying on a formal storyboard, we aligned on the creative tone, product highlights, and key narrative beats from the outset.

With the structure in place — from the bold hero intro to the exploded view and final range showcase — I dove straight into layout scenes and early camera passes. This agile, hands-on approach allowed the visuals to evolve organically while staying tightly aligned with the brand and story.

Creative Planning & Kickoff

1.

Lookdev & Material Matching

2.

Look development was carried out in close alignment with Cigweld’s product team, ensuring accurate translation of finishes, branding, and print-approved details into 3D.

Working from high-resolution stills and studio photography, we focused on replicating signature materials — from the anodized black body to the distinctive dark brass and Pantone-matched accents.
One of the key challenges was maintaining color fidelity across varied lighting conditions, particularly when rendering the product in both isolated and environmental setups.

Lighting played a defining role in shaping the COMET 700’s visual presence — positioning it as a robust, high-performance tool. A blend of dramatic edge lighting, volumetric fog, and tight, low-angle compositions helped frame the product with depth, contrast, and industrial character.

Each scene was designed with clarity and cinematic rhythm in mind, ensuring strong silhouette readability and a cohesive look across both individual shots and the broader campaign visuals.

Cinematic Lighting & Composition

3.

Sound Design & Branding

4.

The final layer of polish came through tailored sound design — created to amplify the technical tone and tactile nature of the animation. Rhythmic clicks, subtle pressure hisses, and low-end pulses were layered to reinforce the industrial feel while supporting the pacing of each sequence.

The outro paired visual branding with a clean, tonal logo sting, designed for flexibility in campaign use.

The sound mix was also structured to allow for easy alternate versions (e.g., swapping out FX or adjusting music), enabling Cigweld to reuse the asset across multiple contexts without needing a full re-edit.
